Kinect is due your car

A want-ad placed by Microsoft's Connected Car team points too the company is investigating ways to include Kinect's motion-sensing technology into vehicles since it strives to become player from the "smart car" field. Obviously, playable games aren't what Microsoft has at heart as it explores functions for Kinect in automobiles. This company is a lot more likely researching ways to utilize camera's voice-recognition software in an effort to control other smart car offerings, like changing the information shown about the dashboard or tweaking the temperature. Microsoft seems being creating a system that 'recognizes' drivers and their habits. "The brand new Connected Car are fully aware its riders, and definately will connect to them naturally via speech, gestures, and face tracking," reads the task description. "It will learn their habits, and gives personalized contextual information and driving assists to get these phones their destination as quickly and safely as is possible." Incredibly, Kinect won't be the first motion sensor in cars. Audi showed off an in-car system at this year's Electronic devices Show that has been controlled manually motions. While auto manufacturers and tech companies reason that these in-car systems (which are often entertainment-based) were made to improve vehicle safety, the nation's Transportation Safety Commission is skeptical. A year ago, the NTSB even recommended a complete ban around the use of mobile devices in cars. "We've seen distractions since there have been cars," says NTSB Chairwoman Deborah Hersman. "There has always been a pretty girl along the side of the trail that someone would turn to see. Even so the quantity and the time that folks are distracted when when driving is rising. … I'm not sure if we could envision where we're going to be 5 years from with this technology. … Doesn't necessarily take much to become distracted. Of course , if you are making an oversight, it could possibly have a real and tragic outcome for someone else."
